Through Re-Cycle’s long-standing partnership with the Wonder Years Centre of Excellence (WYCE) in The Gambia, donated bicycles are doing far more than improving transport.
By selling some Re-Cycle bicycles locally at affordable prices, WYCE reinvests the income directly back into the community — funding vital education, healthcare, and sustainability projects that benefit entire communities.
WYCE’s work is rooted in community engagement and long-term development. Their approach empowers individuals to become agents of change in their own lives, ensuring that the impact of each bicycle extends well beyond the road.

Supporting Education
Income from bicycle sales helps maintain school facilities, provide books and learning equipment, and support school meal programmes at WYCE schools. WYCE also invests in teacher support, classroom resources, and improved learning environments so more children can access quality education.
Last November, WYCE-Gambia donated teaching materials and sanitary items worth 15,000 Gambian dalasis to WYCE Lower and Upper Basic Schools as part of their annual start-of-year support. School leaders praised the donation as timely and vital in improving learning outcomes.

Strengthening Healthcare
Bicycles also support nurse training, healthcare delivery, and community health education.
One beneficiary is Aminata Saidy, a medical foundation trainee from Madina Salam. After being unable to afford training fees, Aminata received WYCE sponsorship, including a laptop to support her studies. She has now begun her first practical placement at Brikama Major Hospital, taking a key step towards becoming a nurse and serving her community.
