Supporting Children in Malawi
Bikes donated to Re-Cycle from across the UK are helping to strengthen communities in Malawi. Some of these bikes are sold locally by our partner Africycle, with the proceeds reinvested into community projects — including vital support for Muula Community Based Child Care Centre (CBCC).
This sustainable approach means donated bikes don’t just provide transport — they help fund education, nutrition and long-term community development.

Long-Term Support for Muula CBCC
Supporting Children in Malawi
Africycle has been supporting Muula CBCC since around 2016, helping improve early childhood education, nutrition and stability for the local community.
When support began, the centre cared for around 100 children. Africycle provided:
-
150kg of soya porridge each month for a daily feeding programme
-
Essential supplies including stationery, firewood, plates and spoons
-
Monthly teacher allowances, ensuring staff could continue working
-
Additional help to meet urgent or unexpected needs

Growing With the Community
Supporting Children in Malawi
As Muula CBCC grew to support around 200 children, Africycle scaled up its support. Monthly food provision increased to 250kg of soya porridge, while full support for supplies, teacher allowances and emergency assistance continued.
This ensured the centre could grow safely without compromising care or education.

Responding When It Matters Most

Africycle also provides rapid support during emergencies. When strong winds damaged the school’s roof, the team responded quickly, repairing the building and allowing the centre to continue operating without disruption.
Supporting Children in Malawi
Through Africycle’s work as Re-Cycle’s partner in Malawi, income from donated bikes is helping Muula CBCC deliver consistent care, education and nutrition.
This partnership supports better outcomes for children today while strengthening the wider community for the future.
