Re-Cycle in partnership with Care Providers Foundation Zambia

Impact in Zambia

In 2025, Re-Cycle sent three containers of donated bikes, spare parts, and tools to our partners, Care Providers Foundation (CPF) in Zambia — a total of 1,515 bikes this year alone.

The impact of these bikes goes far beyond transport. Refurbished and distributed by CPF, some are also sold locally at affordable prices, with the income directly reinvested into community projects.

This model combining sustainable mobility with local enterprise,  funds and supports vital programmes across rural communities.

Peer Health Education Programme

In 2025, CPF identified and trained 10 Peer Health Educators (PHEs) working across six schools. New headteachers and career guidance teachers were also oriented on the programme to ensure long-term support within each school.

The results have been significant:

  • 90% decline in teenage pregnancy
  • 80% reduction in drug and alcohol abuse

Re-Cycle bicycles were provided to trained Peer Health Educators, allowing them to travel easily between schools and deliver sessions consistently. This increased mobility has strengthened the programme and motivated more school leavers to enrol as peer educators.

Ongoing Provision of Sanitary Towels and Bathing Soap

Ongoing Provision of Sanitary Towels and Bathing Soap

CPF continued its long-running menstrual health project in six schools during 2025. Sanitary towels are distributed termly, providing three months’ supply to each girl per term.

  • 4,900 packets of sanitary towels were distributed
  • Each packet contained six sanitary towels
  • The project is funded through 30% of net profits from the sale of Re-Cycle bikes
  • CPF supports delivery through transport and local coordination

This ongoing support ensures girls can attend school consistently without missing lessons due to a lack of basic hygiene products.

Impact in Zambia

Provision of School Desks

CPF provided 100 school desks to improve learning environments in two schools:

  • Bwembelelo School (Mpongwe) – 50 desks
  • Makango School (Masaiti District) – 50 desks

The desks support safer, more effective learning spaces for pupils in overcrowded classrooms.

Borehole Rehabilitation

Using funds generated from the sale of Re-Cycle bikes, CPF rehabilitated five boreholes in 2025, restoring access to clean drinking water in remote communities.

Boreholes were rehabilitated in; Nkoloko, Mumba Mapese, Wila Wila, Malembeka and Muone.

These rehabilitations have reduced reliance on unsafe water sources and improved health outcomes for entire villages.

Donation of Wheelchairs to Local Hospitals

Donation of Wheelchairs to Local Hospitals

Re-Cycle sourced and shipped wheelchairs to Zambia following a request from CPF after identifying a critical gap in local hospitals. In Kapiri-Mposhi, patients were being physically carried to wards due to a lack of wheelchairs.

In response:

  • Three wheelchairs were donated to Kapiri-Mposhi District Hospital
  • Two wheelchairs were donated to Kapiri Urban Hospital
  • One wheelchair was kept on standby for emergencies

Hospital staff expressed overwhelming appreciation, with medical teams highlighting the immediate difference the wheelchairs make to patient dignity and care.

Bicycles for Ex-Inmates Entering Employment

CPF, in partnership with Prisons Future Foundation and Re-Cycle, provided 50 bicycles to former inmates who completed vocational training in; Metal fabrication, Carpentry, Tailoring and design, Agriculture and Bricklaying.

The bicycles support graduates in travelling to work, clients, and job opportunities. Graduation took place on 30 October 2025, with bicycle distribution scheduled for January 2026.

Beyond This Partnership

Alongside Re-Cycle-supported projects, CPF continues to deliver additional community programmes with other partners, including drinking water provision, grocery donations to orphanages, bamboo growing to protect depleted forests, and other local development initiatives.
