Inter-School Cycling Championship 2025
Bikes to Gambia
On 15 November, the West Coast Region came alive for the 2025 Inter-School Cycling Championship, organised by WYCE and Save Life Gambia and hosted at Jamisa Upper & Senior Secondary School.
Twelve schools took part, each entering three senior students—two boys and one girl—making a field of 36 riders.
All bicycles used in the event were Re-Cycle donations rebuilt and prepared by WYCE’s mechanics.

To keep riders fuelled and safe in the heat, all students were provided with meals both before and after their races.
WYCE also supplied cycling clothing donated by supporters—including kit from Rapha—helping level the playing field and giving every rider the chance to compete comfortably and confidently.

Every finisher received a medal and certificate, with cash prizes awarded to the top three riders in each category. Prize amounts were slightly higher for the girls’ race to support and encourage increased female participation.

National broadcaster QTV covered the event, bringing well-deserved visibility to the riders and organisers.

The competition featured two challenging road races, run in over 30°C heat and full sun:

Gambia Police managed traffic throughout the route, two ambulances were on standby, and support vehicles followed with water and mechanical assistance—ensuring a safe, well-coordinated event for all participants.
