A Partnership Delivering Real Impact

Village Bicycle Project, Ghana | March 2026

Learn to Ride Ghana

This week marks a major milestone for Re-Cycle — the loading of our 100th container of bikes to Ghana.

For over 23 years, we’ve been working alongside our long-standing partners, Village Bicycle Project (VBP) Ghana. What started as a shared vision to improve access to affordable transport has grown into a strong, trusted partnership delivering long-term impact across rural communities.

Growing Impact, One Container at a Time

Over the years, we’ve continually improved how we prepare and pack each shipment.

By maximising the number of bikes in every container, we’ve been able to send more than 46,000 bicycles to Ghana to date.

This efficiency matters. It reduces shipping costs per bike and allows more people to benefit from access to reliable transport.

As Eben from VBP explains:

“Re-Cycle’s ability to supply large quantities of bicycles per container has been crucial for cost efficiency.

By maximising the number of bikes per container, we’ve been able to significantly reduce our per-unit shipping costs, allowing us to stretch our resources further and serve more beneficiaries.”

Supporting Communities Across Ghana

Once in Ghana, these bikes are put straight to use through VBP’s community-led programmes.

Programmes supported include:

  • Learn to Ride – helping girls gain the skills and confidence to cycle

  • Cycle to School – enabling students to access education

  • Cycle for Health Workers – improving access to healthcare in remote areas

  • Cycle to Work & Farming – supporting livelihoods and local economies

By combining access to bicycles with training and local support, VBP ensures the bikes continue to deliver value long after they arrive.

More Than Just Bikes

The impact of this partnership goes far beyond transport.

Access to a bicycle can mean the difference between attending school or dropping out, reaching a clinic or going without care, or accessing markets to earn a living.

Eben and the VBP Ghana team put it best:

“The bicycles from Re-Cycle have enabled farmers to reach markets, students to stay in school to complete their education, and health workers to serve remote communities for improved healthcare. This partnership is not just about bikes – it is about building a more connected Ghana.

We are deeply proud of what we have achieved together, and we look forward to the next chapter of this life-changing journey.”

The need for affordable, reliable transport remains high, and together with VBP, we’re committed to continuing this work.

From the UK to Ghana, every donated bike has the potential to change a life.
