Working with WYCE The Gambia to Expand Our Reach into Senegal
WONDER YEARS CENTRE OF EXCELLENCEÂ Â |Â Â Case Study – June 2024
In June 2024, WYCE The Gambia donated 11 bicycles to Justice and Development in Casamance, Senegal, marking a significant step in our collaborative efforts to extend our impact across borders.
These bicycles, originally from Re-Cycle, are now set to make a profound difference in the lives of many in the Casamance region.
Justice and Development focuses on the promotion of agriculture, women empowerment, and conflict prevention and resolution, and these bicycles will play a crucial role in advancing these goals.
The donation aims to empower the organisation to reach various communities within the Casamance region. The bicycles will facilitate access to agricultural farms, support environmental protection initiatives, and promote peace and conflict prevention efforts. This initiative not only improves the mobility of field workers but also brings hope for enhancing lives and supporting humanitarian services in the region.
Mr. Ebrahima Diedhiou, the Director of Justice and Development, highlighted the critical role these bicycles will play.
Field workers deployed across Casamance will use the Re-Cycle bikes to organise community meetings, provide support to families affected by conflict, and work towards the reintegration and reunion of displaced families. Additionally, the bicycles will aid in organising training programs for women in agriculture, biodiversity, and environmental protection.
This partnership underscores the transformative power of bicycles in fostering community development and resilience. By bridging distances and enabling outreach, we are collectively contributing to a brighter, more sustainable future for the people of Casamance.
Since the beginning of our partnership in 2013, Re-Cycle has sent over 17,000 bikes to The Gambia. We work closely with the team at WYCE to ensure the partnership runs smoothly, providing training for their mechanics to maintain the bikes. This long-standing collaboration underscores our shared commitment to fostering community development and resilience, bridging distances, and enabling outreach. Together, we are contributing to a brighter, more sustainable future for the people of Casamance and beyond.
