Meet John Adams, he has been volunteering with Re-Cycle for 5 years, since retiring from a career in the maritime containership & ports industry. His job took him all over the world, although ironically the one continent he never set foot on in the course of his work travels was Africa!
John came across Re-Cycle when his family donated several bikes over the years and when he retired, he decided to apply to become a volunteer, not only to fill some of his spare time but to give something back to a worthy cause.
As well as preparing the bikes ready for loading into the containers, he also sorts the spare parts and is happy to get involved in anything else that needs doing. John has also been instrumental in giving any advice required about the logistics of moving containers to the ports and onwards to Africa. This has been a great help and saved time and cost for the charity.
John says
“Re-Cycle is very well-run charity and committed to its aims and objectives of enabling less well-off people, than us, in Africa to have better lives through bicycle re-use. There is a great mix of volunteers from all walks of life and backgrounds, and we all get on well. I’m really glad I volunteered and feel a part of something good and worthwhile.”
