Our Most Successful Sportive Yet
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this year’s Re-Cycle Sportive — what a day!
A huge shoutout goes to VCR Cycling Club, who once again did a fantastic job organising the event. From planning the routes and timings to managing the ride on the day, we’re incredibly grateful for their support and expertise.
With plenty of advance sign-ups, we knew it was going to be a strong turnout. Then, thanks to the sunny forecast, even more riders joined on the day — making this our biggest and most successful sportive to date.
In total, 126 riders took on the challenge across two scenic routes — 42 miles or 64 miles through the Essex and Suffolk countryside.
Both routes offered quiet lanes, rolling hills, and beautiful views – with the longer loop providing a few extra climbs for those looking for a test. Signage, printed maps, and downloadable GPS files helped everyone stay on track throughout the ride.
For the first time, we had a dedicated Re-Cycle team riding in this year’s event. The group included our Director Charlotte, team members Chris and Marc from the Re-Cycle workshop, one of our trustees, and several brilliant volunteers – all sporting Re-Cycle jerseys with pride. A huge thank you to everyone who supported their fundraising page, helping raise an additional £525 towards our mission.. A big thank you to everyone who supported their efforts.
Many participants added a donation when signing up, helping us raise even more on the day. After covering basic event costs, the sportive raised a net total of £4,133.25 — a 35% increase on last year’s total. That’s an incredible boost for our work getting bikes to where they’re needed most.
Riders were welcomed back with tea, coffee, and a well-earned slice of cake — a small thank you for taking on the miles for a great cause.
Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. In our post-event survey, 100% of respondents said they would recommend the event to a friend, and 55% were taking part for the first time.
To everyone who rode, volunteered, donated or supported the event — thank you. You made this a memorable day for all the right reasons.
