Meet Ray – Why He Became a Trustee for Re-Cycle

At Re-Cycle, our trustees play a vital role in shaping the charity’s future, and we’re proud to introduce Ray, who joined our board in October 2024.
Ray brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as a trustee for Colchester Night Shelter for ten years. When he felt it was time for a new challenge, he was drawn to Re-Cycle’s mission—using bicycles to create real change in communities across Africa.
Why Re-Cycle?
Ray was inspired by the way a simple bicycle can transform lives, whether by helping children get to school, supporting entrepreneurs in reaching markets, or giving healthcare workers a reliable mode of transport. He admires the partnerships Re-Cycle has built with African communities and the generosity of UK supporters who make this work possible.
Bringing Experience & Passion
With a professional background in town planning, Ray understands the importance of teamwork, strategy, and strong partnerships—values that align perfectly with Re-Cycle’s approach. Since joining, he’s already made a huge impact, from supporting our Under-15s race appeal for the Tour de Lunsar in Sierra Leone to championing Re-Cycle’s long-term vision.
And, of course—Ray is also a keen cyclist himself!
