Re-Cycle partners with the Wonder Years Centre of Excellence (WYCE) in The Gambia to improve access to affordable and reliable transport. In many rural communities, long distances to schools, healthcare facilities, and markets create significant barriers to opportunity.

By shipping donated bicycles to The Gambia, Re-Cycle and WYCE provide sustainable mobility solutions that strengthen communities and support economic development. Together, we help increase access to education, healthcare, and livelihoods, with a particular focus on supporting women, girls, and young people.

The Work We Support

Skills Development Initiatives

WYCE is committed to helping local people develop practical skills and build brighter futures. Through bicycle mechanic training and wider skills development programmes, participants gain valuable experience that can lead to employment, self-employment, and the opportunity to run their own bicycle businesses.

Community Development

Re-Cycle supports WYCE’s wider community development work by providing bicycles that can be sold locally to generate funds. These funds help support schools, healthcare facilities, and community programmes, ensuring the benefits of every bicycle extend far beyond transport.

Cycle to School Projects

Bicycles are provided to students in rural communities, prioritising those facing the longest and most challenging journeys to school. Alongside receiving a bicycle, students take part in road safety and basic maintenance workshops, helping them travel safely and keep their bikes in good condition.
