What Bikes do We Accept?

Adult Mountain Bikes & Hybrids

Strong and robust, these are ideal for the rough, unmade roads common in rural Africa.

City & Commuter Bikes

Practical, low-maintenance bikes (often with 3-speed hubs, mudguards, and parcel carriers) that are perfect for everyday use.

Children’s Bikes (12” to 24” wheels)

Small-wheeled bikes are in high demand by our partners. Please note we do not accept toy-sized bikes.

Road Bikes

Racing and touring cycles with drop handlebars. While less suitable for rough terrain, they work well in urban projects with tarmac roads. Touring bikes are especially valued for their sturdiness and load-carrying ability.

Is Your Bike Suitable for Donation?

Ideally, bikes should have less than 25% rust on the frame. We can accept bikes with flat tyres, rusty chains, or minor repairs needed, as these parts can be replaced.

We’re unable to accept bikes with heavily rusted frames or damage that makes them beyond repair.

Bikes with heavy rust, especially on the frame, or damage that cannot be repaired are not suitable for donation.

Still suitable for donation
Bikes with some rusty parts or repairs needed can still be accepted, as long as the frame is in good condtion.

Ready for donation
Bikes in good working order with plenty of life left in them. Minor wear and small repairs are absolutely fine.

Local Bicycle Collections

We offer local bike collections from addresses close to our warehouse in Wormingford, Essex.

If you’re able to bring your bike(s) to us, that’s always the best option. Every drop-off saves us time, fuel, and volunteer resources — allowing us to send more bikes to Africa.

As a small charity, we rely on volunteer drivers to carry out our local collections. We group collections together by area to make the best use of our volunteers’ time and keep costs down. Once you’ve submitted your request, we’ll contact you when we’re next collecting in your area. Depending on volunteer availability and demand, this can sometimes take a few weeks.

Large Volume Donations

Do you have a significant number of bikes to donate?

We regularly work with universities, train stations, businesses, schools, and community groups to collect large quantities of unwanted bicycles.

If you have multiple bikes or a bulk donation, we’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch so we can discuss the best way to collect them and give them a second life.
