Africycle
Africycle’s core mission is to improve access to quality, affordable bicycles across Malawi. In partnership with Re-Cycle, these bicycles are supplied and distributed to support rural communities where improved transport has the greatest impact.
The bikes are sold at low cost, helping to mobilise communities while ensuring a sustainable social enterprise model. Proceeds from bicycle sales are reinvested into local initiatives, including bicycle donations to volunteer organisations and funding for community childcare programmes, creating wider social impact across Malawi.

The Work We Support
Microloan Programme
Re-Cycle bicycles contribute to AfriCycle’s microloan scheme, enabling low-income families to access affordable transport. Families can purchase bicycles and repay over 4–5 months, reducing transport costs and allowing more income to be invested in education, healthcare, and daily needs.
Bicycle Maintenance & Repair Training
We support Africycle’s mechanic training programmes, equipping individuals with essential bicycle repair skills. This ensures bicycles remain in good condition, creates sustainable employment, and strengthens local economies through practical skills development.
Community Development Initiatives
Proceeds from refurbished bicycle sales fund vital community programmes, including support for over 500 orphaned and vulnerable children. These initiatives provide essential resources, care, and long-term social support where it is needed most.
Project Objectives
Enhancing Mobility & Access
Affordable bicycles improve access to schools, healthcare, markets, and employment opportunities, reducing travel time and increasing independence for rural communities.
Promoting Gender Equality & Safety
AfriCycle supports community programmes that address gender-based violence, raise awareness, and connect individuals to support services, helping create safer and more equitable communities for women and girls.
Supporting Economic Growth
Bicycles enable farmers and small business owners to reach wider markets, increasing productivity, income, and long-term financial stability.
Improving Access to Healthcare
Through affordable loan schemes and increased bicycle access, healthcare workers can reach remote villages more efficiently, improving the delivery of essential medical services and timely care.
Be part of the journey
A bicycle can be the difference between isolation and opportunity.
By supporting Re-Cycle and Africycle, you help provide affordable bicycles, training, and community programmes that improve access to education, healthcare, and livelihoods across rural Malawi.
