Working with Organisations in Africa

Re-Cycle works with organisations across Africa to get donated bicycles into the hands of people who need affordable, reliable transport.

We focus on building trusted, long-term relationships with organisations that understand the needs of their communities and can make effective use of the bicycles we provide.

How We Work

We work with established NGOs and community organisations that share our aims. Before formalising a partnership, we carry out checks to understand the organisation, its projects and how bicycles will be used. Where possible, we also visit organisations and their projects in person.

Sending bicycles where they are needed


Once a partnership is established, we donate bicycles to our partners in container loads. Our partners contribute towards the cost of shipping, while Re-Cycle provides the bicycles free of charge. Containers can also include tools and spare parts to help keep bicycles in use.

Working together for the long term


Our partnerships are about more than sending bicycles. We work closely with our partners over time, supporting initiatives such as mechanic training and projects that use bicycles to improve access to education, healthcare, employment and livelihoods.

Learning from our partners


We stay in regular contact with our partners to understand how the bicycles are being used and the difference they are making. Their feedback, stories, photographs and updates help us share the impact of donated bicycles with our supporters in the UK.

Our partnerships are about more than simply sending bikes.

We aim to build long-term relationships with organisations on the ground, working together to make sure bicycles are used effectively, kept in good working order and continue to benefit communities for years to come.

We are not currently taking on new African partners. Our priority is to make sure we have enough bicycles to meet the needs of our existing partners and continue supporting the programmes we already have in place.
