Training Local Mechanics
Building Lasting Skills
Every few years, we visit our partners in Africa with qualified bicycle mechanics to deliver hands on training, ensuring bikes stay on the road for years, not months.
A bicycle only changes a life if it keeps running. That’s why our work doesn’t stop when a container of bikes arrives. It’s just the beginning.
Hands on training that lasts
Our qualified mechanics travel to partner organisations across Africa to deliver practical, hands on training sessions covering repairs, safety, and ongoing maintenance.
These sessions equip local teams with the skills to refurbish bikes on arrival and keep them running reliably for years afterwards, extending the life and value of every bicycle far beyond its initial delivery.
Training local mechanics does more than keep wheels turning. It creates meaningful jobs and builds lasting skills within communities, turning bike reuse into opportunities for employment, independence, and self reliance.
Feedback from the mechanics we train shows that this goes far beyond basic repair. Our approach builds durable, professional competencies, particularly in diagnostics and correct tool use, rather than superficial, one off skills.

Supported by Weldtite

These help local mechanics prepare our bikes when they arrive and keep them in good working condition for the long term.
