We’re delighted to announce a new partnership with Zing Events, a London-based provider of team building activities, whose “Build a Bike” sessions now see completed bikes donated straight to us for distribution across Africa.
Build a Bike is one of Zing Events’ most popular charity team building activities, in which colleagues work together to assemble brand-new bikes for children in need — strengthening team bonds while making a tangible difference in the community.
Since the partnership began in early 2026, Zing Events has donated 25 bikes to Re-Cycle, with demand for the activity growing and further donations expected in the years ahead.
How it works
Once a Build a Bike event is complete, one of our volunteers collects the finished bikes by van and brings them back to our base in Wormingford, Essex. There, the bikes are prepared and packed as compactly as possible to maximise the number we can fit into each container bound for Africa.
From there, our in-country partners take over — distributing the bikes responsibly within local communities. Some support programmes such as Cycle to School and Learn to Ride, while others are sold locally, with proceeds reinvested into community projects including borehole maintenance, school meals, and sanitary provisions for girls.
We also train local mechanics to refurbish and maintain the bikes, creating jobs and keeping the programmes sustainable for the long term.
“We’re incredibly proud to formalise our partnership with Re-Cycle. Our Charity Bike Build events give teams the opportunity to create something with a genuine purpose, with the bikes going on to provide vital, sustainable transport to communities across Africa.
We’ve already seen the positive impact we can make together, and this partnership will allow us to introduce even more clients to Re-Cycle’s fantastic work and help deliver many more bikes to the communities that need them.” — Charles Berry, Director, Zing Events
“It’s fantastic to welcome a new partner like Zing Events and to be able to expand the work we’re doing across Africa. Zing’s Build a Bike events are a brilliant example of team building that gives back — turning a corporate day out into bikes that go on to change lives.” — Charlotte Ward, Director, Re-Cycle
