Taking on an incredible challenge, Roman set out to ride GBduro, a 2,000km self-supported bikepacking race from Land’s End to John o’Groats, while raising vital funds for Re-Cycle.
His goal was simple: raise £2,000 — £1 for every kilometre ridden — with every penny going towards the shipping costs of Re-Cycle’s next container of bikes to Ghana. The container will carry over 500 bikes to support communities through our partner, Village Bicycle Project.
Roman started his challenge on Saturday 9 August 2025, taking on the demanding route entirely under his own power. With a GPS tracker attached, supporters were able to follow his journey every step along the way.
Roman’s motivation came from seeing the impact of Re-Cycle’s work first-hand. Earlier this year, he visited Ghana with Re-Cycle and saw how donated bikes are transforming lives — helping students get to school, enabling farmers to reach markets, supporting nurses travelling to communities, and helping small business owners access the resources they need.

“Earlier this year, I had the incredible opportunity to visit Ghana with Re-Cycle (Bikes to Africa). I saw first-hand how donated bikes are changing lives – from helping students get to school, to enabling farmers, nurses, and small business owners to reach the resources they need.
Re-Cycle partners with Village Bicycle Project in Ghana, who distribute the bikes to rural communities and run essential maintenance training so people can keep them on the road. These aren’t just bikes – they’re lifelines.”
Roman’s challenge shows the incredible impact one person can make. His ride will help ensure more bikes reach communities where they can provide access to education, healthcare, and opportunities for years to come.
