Fundraising in memory of someone special is a powerful way to celebrate their life while creating a lasting legacy. A tribute can continue to make a difference long after someone has passed — helping others while honouring the things they cared about most.
Ellie and her mum, Clair, chose to support Re-Cycle in memory of Andy, a passionate cyclist who spent over two decades exploring the Surrey Hills and sharing his love of bikes with his daughter, Ellie.

Following Andy’s passing, they decided to fundraise for Re-Cycle’s Cycle to School projects in Africa, setting out to raise £1,600 — enough to support a full programme helping children access bikes for their journey to school.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of friends, family, and the wider cycling community, they more than doubled their target, with the fundraiser eventually raising an amazing £4,435 for Re-Cycle.

Ellie shared:
“Anyone who knew my dad, Andy, knew he absolutely loved cycling and all things bikes. His life revolved around going out into the hills on his bike, and now, thanks to him, so does mine. I will forever cherish the love he gave me for cycling.
In his memory, we’re raising money for Re-Cycle (Bikes to Africa). It’s a great charity that has been supported by our local bike shop Head for the Hills for many years, as well as Andy and some of his friends in the past.”
Andy’s love of cycling continues to create opportunities for others — helping children in Africa access education and build brighter futures through the simple power of a bicycle.
