Cambridge Rutherford Rotarians Roll Out Support for Re-Cycle

47 bikes collected at Cambridge Rugby Club to help transform lives in rural Africa.

Cambridge Rutherford Rotary Club has thrown its support behind Re-Cycle, partnering with the charity to host a local bicycle collection day that gathered an impressive 47 unwanted bikes for reuse in rural African communities.

The collection took place in October 2025 at Cambridge Rugby Club, with members of the community coming forward to donate bikes that might otherwise have gathered dust — or ended up in landfill.

The partnership came about after Re-Cycle’s team gave a talk at one of the club’s regular meetings, sharing the impact a simple bicycle can have on communities where walking for hours to reach school, work, or healthcare is a daily reality. Inspired by the mission, Cambridge Rutherford Rotary Club offered to organise a collection of their own.

On the day, a Re-Cycle team member attended with a van, collecting all 47 donated bikes and transporting them directly back to our warehouse — ready to be made roadworthy and shipped abroad to start new lives.
